Focused on understanding the intricate relationship between metabolism and health, research in metabolic medicine is crucial. At Blood Genius, we are actively involved in clinical research that includes ground-breaking research in cholesterol management – the results of which led to the rolling out of injectable cholesterol medicines. Dr Mbagaya is a national chief investigator, principal investigator and sub-investigator in a number of clinical trials.
As early adopters of technology in medicine, we are better able to understand the underlying mechanisms of metabolic disorders and the new therapies to target them. This enables us to identify new risk factors, biomarkers and genetic mutations associated with metabolic disorders.
As advocates of personalised and patient-led medicine, we also believe that teaching and training is important for several reasons:
Patient education
Patients with metabolic and cardiometabolic disorders require education on their condition, including its causes, symptoms, treatments and the lifestyle changes that may be recommended. Our team are trained, knowledgeable and effective in communicating this information to patients. We provide corporate teaching on metabolic health and cardiometabolic diseases.
Prevention
Metabolic disorders such as diabetes, obesity and heart disease are largely preventable through lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise. By teaching patients about healthy lifestyle habits, we can help prevent the onset or progression of these disorders.
Treatment
Effective treatment of metabolic disorders often involves a combination of medications, diet and exercise. We are knowledgeable about the latest treatment options and strategies to provide optimal care to our patients.
Best practice
Regular training helps our physicians and other healthcare professionals keep up-to-date with the latest research, guidelines and best practices in metabolic medicine. Training also helps us to understand the importance of early detection and prevention of metabolic disorders. With early detection, our patients can receive timely interventions to prevent the progression of a disease and reduce the risk of complications.
We believe that research and training in metabolic medicine are essential for improving patient outcomes and reducing the burden of metabolic disorders.
Teaching
Dr Mbagaya has extensive teaching experience as an honorary senior lecturer at University of Bristol Medical School. He teaches GPs nationally on cardiometabolic medicine, lipidology and laboratory medicine. He also supports companies and patient groups in health education.
