Meet the original Blood Genius
Our lead consultant, Dr Wycliffe Mbagaya, has extensive experience in general medicine, laboratory medicine and metabolic medicine. Passionately interested in how body metabolism and blood composition work, and what this means for improving patient health, he is constantly focused on problem solving. With the clinical acumen and experience to diagnose a variety of conditions, he sees patients from both the United Kingdom and overseas.
As one of the few doctors in the UK to practice cardiometabolic medicine – an integrated approach to reducing heart attacks, strokes and vascular dementia – Dr Mbagaya is at the leading edge of research. Known as an early user of new technologies and therapies, he combines clinical and laboratory work with other medical disciplines to ensure the best patient outcomes.
Dr Mbagaya helps patients with various metabolic conditions including unexplained fatigue, metabolic diseases, trimethylaminuria and other malodour syndromes. He also regularly advises patients and other doctors on blood test results and their implications. Dr Mbagaya also has special interests in the management of mineral and nutrient deficiencies such as hypomagnesaemia and phosphate, iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiency.
Dr Mbagaya’s metabolic medicine expertise gives him insight into the management of the metabolic effects of medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, chemotherapy, biologics and immune modulators. He sees patients for metabolic optimisation before surgery, pregnancy and during recovery phase.
Dr Mbagaya also makes it his goal to work closely with colleagues such as cardiologists, rheumatologists, hepatologists, dieticians and specialist nurses to provide holistic and comprehensive treatments to patients.
